I'm happy to report that Madelyn is healty overall and growing well. She's 24 inches long (98th percentile), 10 pounds 6.5 ounches (43rd percentile) and is in 78th percentile for brain development (the size of her head). Her lungs sounded clear and her reflexes were good. She just has a small cold, so we have to use saline in her nose before we suction it out. She really doesn't like that! She does favor one side of her head, so we are working on positioning her head the other direction whenever possible to avoid an oddly shaped head.
At the doctor's visit, she also had to get three immunization shots and one oral vaccine. She did NOT like any of them and screamed bloody murder for quite some time. She slept pretty much the rest of the day and only was awake for feedings. We even skipped the bath to let her continue to rest. She slept awesome again last night - 5 hours and then 4 hours!
Today we spent about an hour at daycare to get familiar with the teachers and the environment. Madelyn is one of 4 girls and 2 boys in her infant room. I really liked the teachers and was happy to have the chance to get to know them better. Andy is the head teacher and Tiffany is the assistant. Both are moms and seemed to really love the kids in their care. They thought Madelyn was really cute and laid back. I told them how she is pretty much a shoulder baby (likes to be held on your shoulder) and really likes to sit in a bouncer and look around or be talked to. She also is good at tummy time and likes to lay on her back.
While I know I'll be a wreck on Monday when I take her to daycare for the first day, I'm happy with the place we've chosen and now feel even more comfortable with it.

8 weeks old
Hard to believe that Madelyn is 8 weeks old today.
But instead of really celebrating, we are taking our little girl to the doctor's office. She's had a very raspy sound in her chest the last 2 weeks and will spit up phlem sometimes. So Dr. Kaufman is gonna check that out. Plus we are making this her 2 month old visit, which means she'll be getting some immunizations.
Wish she was a cuddler so we could cuddle when we get home.....

7 weeks
Today is Madelyn's 7 week birthday! It has been a great day, too! Madelyn slept well in the night - 2 2 and a half hour shifts and one three and a half hour shift! Mommy felt so well rested this morning! I'm also glad Madelyn's baby acne has cleared up completely and that her curls are starting to show!
This morning Madelyn and I talked after her naps and we did some tummy time.
My friend Lisa hung out with us today, which was awesome. It's always wonderful to have my Lisa time!
Madelyn is napping and I just finished up the last of my thank you notes. Feel bad it has taken me this long to do that!
My mom came up on Monday and spent the day with us. We went to Hamilton Heights Development Center, where Madelyn will be going for daycare. I had to go there to get some paperwork and the staff gave us a tour so my mom could see the place. As much as I hate to leave her or go back to work, I'm glad we chose to send Madelyn to Hamilton Heights. She and I will go there sometime next week for an hour or so to sit and play in the infant room.
Yesterday we all went to Lincoln for an adjustment by my brother Stan, but stopped by my cousin's house first to meet her new little boy, Aiden. He was born two weeks after Madelyn but was six weeks early, so he is really small compared to Maddie Mae. It was great to see Kristi (my cousin) and her husband Casey. My parents were at Stan's too so they could see their granddaughter.
Yesterday I also took a walk with Madelyn around the neighborhood and we made new friends. Kelly lives just a couple streets down and was walking her son. We ended up walking around for about 15 minutes. Fun!

Smiles and coos
This weekend was full of more cooing and smiling from Madelyn. I love just sitting next to her when she's in her bouncer or standing next to her when she's laying on her changing table (her favorite spot in the house) and talking with her. She does a great job of following me when I move, looking me in the eye and responding when I ask her things.
What a great weekend we had! Weather was nice enough for Jason and I to take Madelyn for a couple of walks around our neighborhood. It felt good to be out in the fresh air after having been couped up inside our house for a good 6 weeks!
We also weighed Madelyn and it looks like she's 10 pounds 12 ounces. She's obviously growing and eating well, which is awesome!
I finished up my thank yous and did some house cleaning, too.
Jason grilled steaks tonight, but wouldn't you know .. the moment Jason set mine on my plate, Maddie Mae started crying and didn't stop until I was done with my meal. She was overly tired and just needed to eat before going straight to bed without the typical wake time after feeding.
I don't know what to do with her sometimes when it comes to napping. I"m really working on the sleep, eat, play routine, but every once in awhile she's waking before it's time to eat. Do I continue to try to get her back to sleep or do I just get her out the crib when she's wide awake?
Well, it's time for me to do the 9:30 p.m. feeding. I'll post more photos this week!

She's here ... and she's fabulous!
Welcome Madelyn Mae to the Maxson household!
Yes, we had our baby girl Feb. 2 - two days after her due date. She's healthy and has grown and changed so much over the last month.
Here's a quick rundown of Feb. 2.:
I was scheduled to be induced that evening, but thankfully Madelyn decided she was ready to come out on her own. I started feeling contractions around 3:15 a.m. so I called my doctor at 3:30 a.m. and she told us to go ahead and head to the hospital. We gathered our bags and Jason drove me in the crazy snow storm to Bergan Mercy Medical Center where we arrived around 5:15 a.m. I had been on the fence about getting an epidural, but decided to go for it, which was a wonderful decision!!!
I was able to rest for several hours before it was time to push, which I did for two hours. I felt like my head was going to explode! There were two nurses in training, their instructor, 2 more nurses and the doctor in the room when I delievered. I felt bad for the nurses in training ... I was their first live birth! I actually threw up jello on one of them. :(
I had an awesome nurse, Michelle, who happens to live in our neighborhood, and my friend - Dr. Catherine Keefe - delivered Madelyn, who was born at 3:59 p.m. When Catherine announced that it was a girl, both Jason and I were SHOCKED! We both were pretty convinced we were having a boy. But I couldn't be happier that it was a girl!
We chose the name Madelyn Mae after my Nana, Madelyn Benton, who passed away 5 years ago, and my grandma, Mae Schulte, who died 20 years ago, as well as my mom, Linda Mae, and me, Lisa Mae. I'm so glad we could honor those we loved with the name.
Anyway, we love our new family! I've been able to be home to get to know Maddie and become familiar with her cries and cues, which has been wonderful. We've had lots of visitors and lots of fun with Madelyn. I will return to work April 4 and Madelyn will go to Hamilton Heights, a daycare nearby, during the day.
Yesterday was Maddie's 6 week birthday and we were finally able to go for a walk outside.
Maddie is getting to be such a good sleeper. We are only thrown when she is super gassy or has diaper blowouts and becomes overly alert because of them in the night. I feel more confident when it comes to knowing which cry means what and that has brought some consistency in our household. She seems to have Jason's personality quite a bit. She likes to be left alone in a bouncer or in her crib to just look around, but does enjoy cuddling every now and then. She enjoys her baths too.
Yesterday during the bath, she smiled at me twice. I was thrilled!!!

Today my cousin Hannah is coming to visit and Madelyn and I are going to watch March Madness games. We might also venture to the grocery store so I can make shepherd's pie for dinner to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. My sister was over yesterday and I had visits from my high school friend Janelle and my college friend Lynnette.
I promise to do a better job of updating. Really.
